on meeting of the participants of motor- cycle rally "Trans-Eurasia, Japan" in the context of "Bone and Joint Decade" in Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics"

In June, 9 Kurgan welcomed the participants of motor- cycle rally "Trans-Eurasia, Japan". The arrival of the travelers in the context of "Bone and Joint Decade" has become the remarkable event for our town.

The Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 (BJD) aims to improve the health-related quality of life for people with musculoskeletal disorders worldwide.

Motorbike Rally "Trans-Eurasia, Japanâ is taking place in order to promote "Bone and Joint Decade "campaign (BJD). Its participants started from Japan, directing from east coast of the continent to the starting point of this motorbike Rally "Dakarâ in Portugal. Choice of this route and visit to Kurgan are not accidental.

On the 15th of June, in 86th anniversary of academician G.A.Ilizarov's birthday took place solemn ceremony of the project begin.

In one of previous visits to Kurgan Prof.Takashi Matsushita, President of National Committee of BJD told a story of famous Japanese sportsmen and traveler Shindji Kazama who was successfully treated after trauma during Paris-Dakar Rally 2004 by means of Ilizarov device in his clinic and on his wish to visit Kurgan and Ilizarov Center. He is the only rider in the world who ever has reached at the both Poles on his motorbike (1987 - North, 1992 - South).

Japanese orthopedists and traumatologists - are often guests in Kurgan, they coming with big groups to study Ilizarov method. Later on we"ve got an official request from Japanese side to accept a group of project participants and let them to perform shooting of the future film. This agreement was received; many Japanese companies supported this project.

The arrival of the travelers in the context of "Bone and Joint Decade" has become the remarkable event for our town. Famous racer Shindji Kazama and doctor Nabuyuki Takenaka were met at Belozerskoe road ring by motobikers, representatives of mass media and members of the Centre. The column entered the Ilizarov Centre solemnly. General director of the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics" Professor Shevtsov V.I., head of the town Elchaninov A.F., members of the Centre and patients welcomed the guests at the main entrance. Professor Takashi Matsushita was also among the guests.

While the Japanese were listening the folk Russian songs, young patients did remedial gymnastics near the Centre. There was the exhibition of children’s paintings "The way I see the world" in the hall. The materials about the international work of the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre were also presented to our guests. They were very glad to see Japanese landscapes at the photo-report of closed company "Dummy" on Russian-Japanese cooperation.

Press conference with the participation of local and regional mass media took place in the conference-hall. Journalists questioned not only Japanese travelers but also Professor Shevtsov (general director of the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics"), Taskaev A.V. (director of the stadium "Torpedo", Shadrinsk), Krasnikov N.O. (multiple champion of the world in the ice speedway, Shadrinsk), and Koltakov S.S. (multiple champion of the world in the speedway in team scoring).

At the end of the conference the participants of the conference were presented with medals with the Decade symbolism, souvenirs and letters of gratifying. The organizers of the meeting thanked people who helped the Centre meet the guests.

Our guests placed flowers on the monument of Ilizarov. In the evening Anatoli Elchaninov received the delegation and told them different facts from the history of Kurgan. After that the Japanese went to the hotel.

During the second day they visited the museum of the Centre. After that guests shot a film about the center. Then they visited closed company "Dummy". In the evening the travelers learnt how to play "gorodki".

In June,11 V.I.Shevtsov and members of the Centre saw the guests off. They also visited the training base of Kurgan sportsmen. Koltakov S.I. and his sportsmen made motor-show.
